Rebinding paperbacks
Old books falling apart get new spines in cloth. Slow work for winter evenings.
My grandmother's paperbacks were falling apart. Pages loose, spines cracked white. I took a bookbinding class and learned to give them hard covers.
Glue, mull, boards, cloth. Each book takes an evening. The colours are mine now, blue and red and a yellow I regret.
On the shelf
They stand together, eleven books in coloured cloth. Nobody else would know what they were. When I open one I can still smell her house.
