The grid I stopped filling
Empty cells used to look like I had forgotten something. Now they are the only part I trust.
I used to treat a grid as a dare. If a module was empty I dropped in a quote, a rule, a little mark that said a designer had been here. The page got louder and I called that complete.
Last winter I left two columns blank on a poster and printed it anyway. People stood further back. They could see the title. That is the whole job.
What I leave
If a cell has nothing honest to say, it stays empty. White space is not a feature I added. It is the part I finally stopped ruining.
