To the shop the long way
The short route is a car park. The long one has a hedge that still has berries in September.
I can be at the till in six minutes if I cut behind the petrol station. I don't. I go along the ditch, past the allotments, and arrive with wet shoes and a reason to have left the house.
The berries are mostly paste by now. I still check. The hedge does not care. That is the point of a hedge.
What I buy
Bread, matches, whatever was on the scrap in the drawer. If I take the long way I usually forget half of it, which means I get to walk it again tomorrow.
