Eight lengths before work
The municipal pool at seven is mostly steam, a wall clock, and people who don't want to talk.
I swim because running makes my knee complain in a voice I have learned to trust. Eight lengths is not training. It is enough that my hair is wet when I unlock the bike.
Lane 4 is quieter if you ignore the man who does a tumble turn as if someone is watching. No one is watching. The tiles on the bottom are the same tiles as last year. I count them when I am bored, which is most of the time, which is fine.
After
The hairdryer in the changing room has one setting. I use a towel and go out with a damp collar. Coffee on the way tastes like chlorine until the second sip.
