Rain on the indoor pool roof
You hear it between lengths. It makes the municipal tiles feel less like a waiting room.
Lea Nyström
When it rains hard the roof of the pool ticks. I time my turns to it without meaning to. The man in lane 3 does not. He has a watch.
Indoor swimming is usually the same air, the same clock, the same poster about drowning. Rain gives the building a weather, which is more than the architects offered.
After the storm
The car park is a lake. I wait under the overhang with my damp collar and watch people pretend they are not running.
