What came home in the paper bag
I went out for bread and came back with a cabbage. This happens every Thursday.
The shop by the station puts the vegetables right by the door so you have to walk through them. I know this. I fall for it anyway. Apples, a cabbage the size of a head, bananas I will forget until they are only good for baking.
The bread was sold out. I made cabbage soup and ate it with crispbread. It was better than the plan.
The bag
Paper, with handles that tear if you carry it like a bucket. I carry it like a baby now. The man at the till says nothing, which is kind of him.
