A seedling in the snow
It came up too early and then the weather changed its mind.
The pea by the fence did not read the forecast. Two leaves, very green, sticking out of a crust of April snow like it had something to prove.
I covered it with a jam jar at night. Every morning I lifted the jar and there it was, not growing, not dying, just waiting.
How it ended
The snow melted on the Thursday. The pea grew three centimetres by Sunday and then got eaten by a slug. I am not making a lesson out of it. I just wanted someone to know it was there.
