Cupcakes for a class of twenty-six
The school sent a list of allergies. I baked anyway.
My daughter volunteered me. Twenty-six cupcakes, no nuts, no eggs for one child, no colouring for another. I made two batches and lost track of which was which by the time the icing went on.
I labelled them with toothpicks and little paper flags. It looked like a tiny cemetery. The children did not care. They ate the icing and left most of the cake.
Next time
Bigger flags. Less icing. Or buy a box from the bakery and put it in my own tin, which is what the other parents clearly do.
