The rose path at the manor
Someone has clipped that hedge for a hundred years. I only walk on it.
The old manor outside town opens its garden on Sundays. There is a straight gravel path between two low hedges with roses climbing over arches at the end.
I have no roses. My soil is clay and my patience is short. I go there to look at what other people's patience made.
The gardener
There is one, a woman about my age, who works with a wheelbarrow and a radio. I asked her once how long the hedge took. She said every week since 1998.
