Water

The coast from above

My nephew flew his drone over the beach. I finally saw what I swim in.

Erik Strand

I have walked that beach for thirty years. From the ground it is sand, water and a line of foam. From above it is a pattern. Dark blue where it drops off. Light green over sand. White lace where the waves break.

My nephew showed me on his phone and I asked him to go up again. And again.

Seeing it new

I went for a swim after and tried to feel where the dark blue starts. You can. The water goes cold just there. I had felt it for thirty years without knowing what it was.

Thirty years of feeling the cold line and only now seeing it. Lovely.
